The Homily and the New Evangelization

Wednesday 19th September 2012 (10am-4.30pm)

In preparation for the Year of Faith (Oct 11th 2012 – Nov 24th 2013) this conference will look at the opportunities and challenges for preaching the New Evangelisation.


  • Introduction by The Most Reverend Bernard Longley, Archbishop Of Birmingham & Member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization
  • First Session: ‘Homily and Catechesis for the New Evangelisation ’ Reverend Dr Dominic Robinson SJ , Heythrop College
  • Second Session: ‘The Homily since the Second Vatican Council’ Reverend Dr Con Foley, Saint John’s Seminary, Wonersh.
  • Third Session: ‘Evangelisation at the Margins: Preaching in the Court of the Gentiles’ Reverend Deacon Dr Duncan Macpherson, Saint Mary’s University College

Workshops Include:

  • Preparing the Sunday Homily
  • Preaching and Lectio Divina
  • Preaching at Infant Baptisms
  • Preaching Techniques that Engage (Paul Johns, Director of the College of Preachers)

Archbishop Bernard will celebrate Mass at 12 noon
